An email received from Sarah Hutton and her comments on Debris gaiters and TORQ gels, new to Lakes Climber and Runner.
I recently bought some inov-8 debris gaiters from the shop - I used them yesterday on a 40miler and they were great. No grit in my shoes/socks :) It will be interesting how the rubber foot straps wear though. I also used the torqgel sample which you kindly included with the gaiters. I'm used to using isotonic gels (usually SIS) so I expected to find the TORQ gel almost impossible sweet. But taken with sips of water it was quite pallatable and the black cherry yoghurt flavour was a damn sight nicer than a lot of the bland citrus flavours you get in gels. I would be interested in using them in a race, but would mix them in with isotonic gels to get a mix of gel textures and flavours. I used the gel after only 6 miles so it sat in my stomach quite easily, I wonder if that would still be the case after 70 miles when I may be getting dehydrated and would probably be feeling nauseous ie typical night section. Worth a try though. My thanks once again.
